Send Me Mail / Wishlist

Anna’s Wish List…

  • Basically I love getting mail (particularly magazines and comfort items) but please don’t feel bound by this list… I also love surprises!   Think of these as guidelines only, I love people who think outside the box too :-)
  • Cake or cookie mixes!
  • Knorr sauce packets (or the like) (I can find pasta in village)
  • Propel To Go, or other water flavoring packets )
  • Venus breeze razor refills
  • Nair/Veet products
  • AA and AAA batteries (a lot)
  • Hot chocolate and/or coffee instant packets
  • Little kids’ workbooks and school stuff
  • Arts’n crafts supplies/activities
  • M & Ms!
  • Downy wrinkle remover
  • Gum
  • Magazines (all kinds)
  • Vacuum sealed stuff (tuna, chicken breast, etc. I can actually find tuna in Lome and sometimes Vogan)
  • Photos, letters and updates on your life!
  • Granola bars
  • Instant food mixes
  • Wheat Thins and other snack items
  • House decorating / useful items for the house .  IE just ship me my personal Ikea store.
  • Craft supplies like crayons or coloring books; stickers for kids; etc. Craft activity ideas (internet printouts?)

My address is posted on the home page as well as the right-hand sidebar.

Mail to Togo takes a couple weeks from the USA. Mail from Togo to the USA can take longer, as much as four weeks or longer. It just all depends (where you are in the country, etc). Always send mail marked AIRMAIL. Packages are surface mail (3 weeks) or by ship (6 months).

Any postcards should be sent in envelopes.

If sending packages, use padded envelopes rather than boxes. Keep it under 5lbs. I think you will have to fill out a customs slip. Write down something non-descript such as “tampons” or “religious material“. This can help the contents avoid being stolen on their way through customs. I’ve also heard that writing “Soeur” (French for sister, ie a nun) can help as well as marking some religious symbols or phrases on the envelope. This probably goes for letters too.

I’ve also heard it’s a good idea to enclose a list at the bottom of any packages of what you originally sent, so that the receiver knows if anything was stolen.

Never enclose anything valuable or that you would devasted if it was lost in the mail. If it is a really urgent matter, although I can’t think what, DHL (express mail service) does operate in Togo, and there is a specific address you would send it to for which you can ask me.

These hints are not to mean that all I want is packages or necessarily expect them. However I’m sure I would be glad of even a short letter letting me know what’s going on in the world!

However there is really no rhyme or reason as to which packages arrive and which don’t… I’ve had pretty good luck so far, with only one package lost…

    Hey Anna,

This is terribly exciting to hear from you AND to discover that your adventures are only growing! We still miss you around here. Life in the OIP is good: we have more and more programs to get our kids out, so you’d be pleased.

Keep yourself well and I know you’ll adjust beautifully to whatever the Peace Corps may serve up to you. With women and girls, you have wnderful and important work ahead.

    Miss you and love,

    Roberta

When will you return to the US? How long is your commitment in the Peace Corps?

Is there children the same ages as Trent 11 and Paris 6 years old that we could arrange pen pals for. I will cover all the postage that will occur? I think this would be a amazing experience for my children let me know your thoughts on this. we are willing to support two children the same sex and ages of our children. Can not wait to see ya again…
